The purpose of the Community Submissions page of The Planet is to connect and engage with community members and provide a space for non-journalists to share their work while still being dedicated to environmental awareness and advocacy through responsible journalism.

Submission Guidelines

  • The Planet staff have the right to determine what is published or not 

  • Stories that follow a style similar to that of traditional Planet stories (i.e podcasts, photo stories, or feature/profile stories are more likely to be published

  • At least one photo, video or graphic is required to accompany your story on our website

  • We require some form of fact-checking. We will ask you for citations or footnotes to prove that what you are writing about is factually accurate. In addition, if you are using human sources for your story, please provide their names, titles and contact information

  • We will not publish a story that has already been written about on our main page from the last three issues. 

  • In your email, please include a short biography including your relation to Western, if any (see examples under every feature story for the Planet), as well as your submission (preferably in a Google Doc).

  • Please ensure that there is no conflict of interest in your story before you submit it.
